Went to a few yard sales over the weekend…it has become an annual family hobby, we all love it. It’s funny how other people’s stuff can make you reminisce and notice the passage of time. One house had a load of primo baby stuff: crib, baby carriers and strollers, hardly used toys. At one time that would have been hitting the jackpot. Now we hoped for a sale at a house with 10-12 year old boys (just a few years older than ours…) who had outgrown their stuff, like soccer cleats and scooters.
I scored this cigar box of old thread on wooden spools. (Never know when those will come in handy) Right now my brain feels a bit like that box. Full of ideas and possibilities, yet mixed up and unwinding at the same time. (ha! my iBrain is stuck on “shuffle”) I’ve been dabbling around the studio, making a mess and experimenting with some new techniques. I might share some of them. I might keep them to myself. We’ll see…
In other news, I heard Joann stores are now carrying my book, so I’ll have to scope that out. I’m also setting up a workshop in Minneapolis for August. More news on that soon. Oh yeah, and being distracted with all of the dead lions around here, I overlooked my 2 year blogiversary earlier this month!
Have a great week!
I always bye thread on wooden spools when I find them! And my father has bought old cigarboxes since I was a kid! I could not belive my eyes when I saw the picture. Fun, I needed a smile today.
Congratulations on your Blogversary and for having your book in Joannes. That’s cool. I’ll have to check it out today myself. Have a great day!
Yes, I saw a copy of your book at Joann’s…..and bought it for my niece (I already have a copy!) BTY That was at a store, not on line.
Janice,
Thanks for buying my book…twice! đ You’re right, I have not seen it on joann.com.
Betz
What a lucky score!! I love wooden spools and have yet to find them at bargain prices!! I’d love to display them in a glass jar at some point, reminds me of grandma!
I really miss yard sales now that I live in Ireland (married an Irishman!) I grew up in College Park, Maryland, not too far down the road from where you are I think, but now my folks are in Oregon. I got your Warm Fuzzies book there at Joanns on a visit in April!
Ooooh, I love your threads, good find.
Happy 2 years of the blog, too.
Nice score on the thread. Is anything more exciting than a cigar box at a garage sale that rattles when you pick it up? ;o)
Happy anniversary Betz~ Good luck taming those lions…
Oh, guess what? In our neck of the woods we have (my favorite store!) Ben Franklin Crafts. My family teases that he is “other man” in my life and they know where to find me when I say, I’m going to Ben’s. They have your book there, too! I wanted to snap a pic to show ya, but forgot my phone. Oops. But I was so happy to see it there. The wooly love keeps spreading and giving “Warm Fuzzies” đ Right up there with browsing in Ben Franklin is hitting good yard sales. Gotta love those thrifty, vintage scores!
I totally second the iBrain on shuffle. There’s lots of great songs in there, but they could use some order and maybe a playlist or two. Let me know if you figure out how to configure that…
Nice score on the thread!
Lucky you finding the cigar box full of thread.
I see quite a few of the small silk perle spools, they are getting harder and harder to come by and it is such a wonderful thread to stitch with. Wish today’s threads could compare.
