Don’t you love the part of the DVD that shows “the making of” the movie you just watched? I’m tellin’ ya, sometimes those things are better than the actual movie. Or maybe it just seems that way. Maybe it’s that you feel like you’ve got some kind of inside scoop (over who, I’m not sure…the people that never click on “special features”? Tricky, I know)
That must be the reason why a lot of crafters are curious about what other people’s craft rooms look like. It offers insight into the inner workings of the creative mind…what makes us tick…what inspires us. Ok, we’re just nosey! If you don’t believe me, check out the blog Make It that has a whole category called “craft spaces”.
After my last craft fair, I gave my studio a good cleaning. Sheesh, working with wool sure is a linty business. I found some dust bunnies the size of…well, bunnies! I figured all that work deserved some photo documentation before I mess it up again. My studio doesn’t have a lot of architectural beauty, but it has oodles of natural light. Click on any photo to see it larger.
My sewing table. It was a little drab, so I made a covering for it. It’ll double as a table cloth I’ll use at craft fairs.

The mega drawing table! This was my husband’s work table all through college. It was originally his grandfather’s, who was a draftsman.

The wall of wool…I need to spend re-org time on this storage method. Some bins I can see through that are not plastic would be great.
My next plan is to repaint the room. My friend Beth has given me the secret formula to the most beautiful robin’s egg blue…

Thanks for letting us snoop! My studio is in boxes in a Pod for the next couple of weeks!
I finally postedmy birdies onto my blog, if you want to see ’em. :>
betz, that giant wood drafting table is amazing. never give that away, it’s an heirloom. as for your storage problem, i did, a little research, of course :), check out some of these wire baskets on the container store website. stackable bins, not plastic. hope the link works. http://www.containerstore.com/browse/index.jhtml?CATID=71224&howMany=999&viewAll=true
Thank you for sharing this. It does indeed give us an insight into what inspires you to create the most amazing work. Love the ‘Make It’ link, so fascinating.
Sigh – I love seeing the secret life of crafters. Thanks for sharing! I think the robin blue will be the perfect colour to tie everything together. I’ve always dreamed of a sun room for my studio – with so much light it is bright and inspiring. But I can see what you mean about the temperature problems – I never thought about that!
I also love your table cloth over the sewing table – great colours!
I’m a fan of all your work 🙂
