I wasn’t intending to post more photos from my 60’s craft book this week…atleast not until my visit to Print & Pattern. I am completely addicted to this blog! Always full of gorgeous, inspiring images, this week P&P featured the following work from Rica Takada. Rica is a Tokyo based illustrator with a clean retro style.
When I saw it I immediately thought of my new favorite old craft book…BH&G Stitchery and Crafts because of this floral appliqued headboard and mosaic wallhanging.
And another favorite, the fun food layouts on the cover of the Cutco Cook Book, circa 1956
I love that so much of what looks fresh and inventive today has it’s roots in another era. Like one of my college professors always said, “Fashion is evolutionary, not revolutionary.”
wow betz, I see you have been busy. stop reading the blogs and one falls so quickly behind! I like the needle felting..and thanks for sharing the vintage craft books.
thanks for the great links!
Oh my goodness, you guys are going to make me poor by posting so many good ‘to buy’ books 🙂 love the one mentioned in P&P and your other find is gorgeous! Especially loving the appliqued headboard.
cutco ad cracks me up. i didn’t know they were around so long ago. my brother sold it briefly so as you might guess, my mom has it all, and then some. and they are sharp.
i have been wanting to do some wet felting, and i even got the mesh, etc that i would need, but i keep wussing out. i wish i lived near ya!
