Do you have a little tiny Christmas stocking for the feline in your family? Wanna go D.I.Y. for the C.A.T? Do I have a quick project for you!
I made these little cat toys for my last show and they were snatched up in a hurry. They are made with colorful wool roving and yarn, felted (in the washer! sweet!) around a rattle. And if that isn’t alluring enough for your puddy-tat, add a little dollop of curly mohair on top.
Basically, I followed this tutorial (make sure to read part 1 and part 2) but wrapped the roving around a rattle. You could also use an inexpensive bell-in-a-ball cat toy as the center.
After the ball was felted and dry, I needle felted a bit of curly mohair on top just to tease the little beasts! All it takes is a few pokes with a felting needle to secure. Make sure the ball is completely dry and watch out for the rattle when using the felting needle.
I bought my mohair locks at a wool festival, but I see it sold online at places like this and that. (Note: If your kitty has a tendancy to eat yarn, perhaps it’d best to make a toy without the mohair teaser. While it is firmly attached, a motivated kitty maybe able to chew some off. As you can see from the look of my kitty, he’s stuffed and couldn’t eat a thing)
What a great use of mohair locks – these are really wonderful!
Haha you are so funny 🙂 They look absolutely enticing (I can imagine the kitties going wild for them)
