I’m back in my studio taking photos of my work to post on Etsy. I do have a few things left from the show and I want to get them in the shop for the holiday season.
I thought it might be interesting (or humorous) to show a little behind the scenes look at my professional (ahem) set up!
All I need is natural light and an office chair! I drape a fabric that I think compliments my work onto the chair. I put a few straight pins into the chair back to hold it in place. I like to put a notebook or something flat under the fabric on the seat so the item sits level. Then, with my back to the window, I rotate the chair around until I get some nice even lighting (no direct sun or shadows) and shoot with a digital camera, no flash. Sometimes I lean my elbow on a nearby table to help steady the camera.
Afterward I do a few minimal tweaks in Photoshop…crop and sharpen the image, adjust the levels, and I’m done! For my schmancy PR shots, I enlist my husband and his high-end camera. But for Etsy and Blogville, my Canon Elph and office chair suit me just fine!

That’s such a great setup, thanks for your behind the scenes secret.
Ooh…you have some beautiful things at the etsy store. What a wonderful view you have in your studio and the fabric on the chair is a lovely addition. I love your journals!
And the results are great photos for your etsy store! And the journals are just beautiful. So, when are you going to find an outlet for your gorgeous work in or near Madison?
Hi Sara,
I have work at The Glitter Workshop in Madison! (click link in sidebar) Thanks for asking,
Betz
So happy to find your blog!
Just found your site, I really need one of thosepin cushions in the previous post!
that’s fantastic! it sure helps to have a nice fabric stash too 🙂
i chose my current apt. based on its fabulous floods of daylight. the only time i turn on the lights is at night or on a dark dreary day.
ps. the next time you’re selling pincushions, is there any pre-notification via email? or can someone just place a request ?
thank you!
