For day 2 of my workshop weekend I taught a class called Shibori Felting. Here are a few photos of some fabulous projects made last Sunday…I hope they inspire you like they inspire me!
Shibori is a term borrowed from a traditional Japanese tie-dye resist technique. Apply it to felting (minus the dye) and amazing dimensional textures result!
Sections of fabric are manipulated through stitching and tying before felting. Wrap unfelted fabric around differently shaped objects (like beads, corks, bottle caps, popsicle sticks, etc) to produce varying textures. During felting, these objects resist while the surrounding fabric felts and shrinks, producing marvelous tactile results.
Here Cheryl and Kay are busy stitching and tying their unfelted scarves…
Of course I can’t go without mentioning the additonally inspiring (in a sweet tooth kind of way) Cupcake Cafe next door.
Yum…what could be better than a day of fun and fiber art accented with coffee and cupcakes! It’s a winning combination…
It´s seems to me very interesting, and the result was very nice.
I’ve much sorry because where I live I do not have possibility of these things.I love work with felt but everything i know I learned in a small workshop and alone at house. Congratulations for your work.
Beautiful work, is it similar to tie-dying? it looks fun. Love the cupcake cafe, such fantastic signage 🙂 Happy Easter Betz!
