This is what my drawing table looked like today. I’m in the midst of my first “author review” of the book manuscript. Corrections in red, pink stickie notes for things to double check…diet coke and candy to keep the process flowing.
This book thing is a looong process. Haven’t I been yammering abut it since October? (I had even been keeping it a secret since July!) It’s exciting to see it finally coming together. I still haven’t seen the “beauty shots” of the projects and won’t until August. I can’t wait. Now my job is to go over every detail of every project (again) to be sure all of the directions makes sense. It’s a bit tedious. I’d much rather be developing new designs! But, after all my effort to make the projects as fun and beautiful as I could, I want to be darn sure that the reader has the most precise and understandable instructions as possible.
Do you see what it says on my favorite eraser? It says, “Smart Women Make Changes”. I am trying to apply this philosophy to my work and my life. Breathe deep. Read the eraser. Repeat after me. I can change my mind. I can fix mistakes. I can make changes. I can survive big change.
Yeah, here’s me: “the meaning of life is printed on my office supplies”
Accepting wisdom, wherever it comes from, is a sign of a strong and competent woman! The life lessons your sons will learn from the move experience will serve them for a lifetime (you already know that!) and you are doing all the right things to ease the way. Let them create scrapbooks or memory boxes of Wisconsin along with road trip journals/boxes — and wow, will there be a million things in Maryland for them (and you!) to fall in love with….
Okay, that looks familiar! Hang in there, Betz. It is all so exciting. I love the rainbow shirt and I had that same Dorothy Hamill haircut, too. You sure can tell we are about the same age.
I am thinking about you.

Hi Betz: I feel for you about moving and telling the boys, that is hard. I hope the move goes well for you and that is a positive experience for your family. Looks like you are hard at work on your book, can’t wait to see it out! You do such beautiful work, enjoy your blog…Violet in Canada
: )
I can’t wait to see the book! The eraser is just great – such true sentiments! Good luck with the changes!
have you had another set of eyes to read over things? i find that helpful, because what makes sense to me doesn’t necessarily click with someone else, and vice versa.
i’d rather have my wisdom from an eraser vs. a stupid fortune cookie! good luck 🙂
how exciting to be working on your own book.. seeing it progress along. can i congratulate you AGAIN!?
I like a lot your blog
I’m really looking forward to your book Betz! It seems like a lot of work but it’s so exciting!!! It’s going to be great!
Now, you have to tell me where you got the earser. It’d be perfect to send out to my co-workers 🙂
For all of you Smart Women, here’s where you can buy those wise erasers. I also have a big coffee mug that says, “Smart Women Thirst for Knowledge”

Love the eraser and it’s dose of empowerment philosophy!
Hi Betz!
It looks like you go over your review copies the same way we do…only we like to throw some Reese’s Peanut Butter cups into the mix. And sometimes, when it is really late and we’re tired, we add some Black Cherry Vanilla Diet Coke to really shake things up :). Congrats on your book, it will surely be a winner!
I cannot wait until your book comes out. I pre-orderd mine last month!
That’s the first thing I noticed Betz. I can see you living your life through that philosophy and it’s working well? Believe in yourself and with a lot of hard-work, confidence and determination, everything will come together. Wishing you and your family all the best for the move and the future.
