I thought I’d squeeze in a blog post here before I head out of town. I am going to upstate NY for a few days to attend part of the photo shoot for my next book. I know, I know, I keep mentioning “book #2” and then not really saying much else about it. The truth is, I have been working on it so heavily for the past 6-plus months, that sometimes I’m not in the mood to talk about it here. (Ha! My family should be so lucky. At our house it’s like an old Far Side comic. Do you remember those? Like the one, “What Dogs Hear: blah, blah, blah, FOOD, blah, blah, blah, WALK, blah, blah, blah”. Only our version is: “MY BOOK, blah, blah, blah, DEADLINE, blah, blah, blah, PROJECT, blah, blah, blah”.)
an early “sew green” mood board – tear sheets from various magazines..
As soon as the boys started school last fall I have been nose to the grindstone designing, developing, sewing, researching, interviewing, writing…for this bookity-book-book-book! (And then of course with the first born book coming out in December last year, the chat here was all about that. And it still is. I mean, with all of the work sweat and tears put into one of these babies, it’s not something to push to the side any time soon.)
So, here’s what I can tell you about book #2 for now. This time I am working with Melanie Falick at Stewart Tabori and Chang. The book will be a good deal different from my first book…a little more “lifestyle” you might say. It’s tentative title is called Sew Green. And…oh jeeps…where to begin? Can you tell my brain has gone mushy in the wake of it?
The sewing projects will go beyond felting wool sweaters (although there will be some of that!) to include all sorts of repurposed materials. In addition there are projects using new sustainable and organic fabrics to round out the eco-friendliness of it all.
another mood board, color, inspiration, visual feel
Green crafting, green sewing….repurposing, yes, all of that. But really, there is so much more. Much more in fact, that needs to be written. So, on that note, I will stop trying to describe it and finish the dang manuscript already. Deadlines have come and gone…more following.
“Blah, blah, blah, BOOK, blah blah, blah, PHOTOGRAPHY, blah, blah blah, WRITING…”
Please bear with me…thanks!
**P.S. Such as the lead time of books, the release date is Spring 2009
Hi there
I’m de-lurking to say that the book sounds fab! I’ve been popping by for a while now so i’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for the book launch!

The photo boards are beautiful. Thanks for the fun inspiration, and looking forward to your new book. Keep up the great work!
A concept I’ve long embraced.
Use it up.
Wear it out.
Make it do.
Do without.
– Suzanne, the Farmer’s Wife
I just purchased your first book from amazon and can’t wait for the UPS man to bring it to me.
The new book sounds super – and timely. Can’t wait for it!
Have a safe trip.
Oh my…a new book! Can I wait until Spring 2009? I don’t think so, but I guess I’ll have to wait. I’ve already marked my 2009 calendar to look out for your new book.
Hi Betz, got your card.. and your card.. thank you adn you are welcome all in one. .. So funny about the green thing.. I am doing an article about green crafting with kids for a Homeschool magazine.. so much of the craft aimed at kids/recycle is just about making more trash.. I think kids and mom’s deserve beter than that… so I will be first in line for your new book! 🙂

FYI…
Some people have asked if I know of a blog called Sew Green. I have heard of it and even link to it in my sidebar. However, I am not one of the contributors to the Sew Green blog. The name “Sew Green” is a tentative title for my 2nd book, a decision that is not mine to make. I realize that there might be some associations made there, even though the Sew Green blog covers many green topics, sewing just being one of them. We’ll see how it pans out!
Betz
So looking forward to your new book! I can’t believe you’re going to tell us about it and then make us wait a whole year. Evil woman! I love all your work though, so I’ll be patient.
LOL, I totally remember that cartoon 🙂 The new book sounds wonderful, repurposing is one of my fave words – can’t wait to see it!
Hi Betz,
Wonderful news to hear about a new book in the works! The first book Warm Fuzzies is excellent! I am curious to know why you have decided to change publishers for the second book. I have noticed that many craft authors will work with the same publishing company throughout their writing career. Thank you for sharing your talents with all. You are a very inspiring teacher and artist!
