I’m back from the Richmond Spring Bada-Bing show this past Sunday. Phew! What a trip. The show was really fun, the people were friendly and it was so good to get out from behind the computer for a change.
For a spring show and a torrential rain storm, there was a nice turn-out. Richmond is about a 2 hour drive for us and it was white knuckle all the way! (there and back, unfortunately) It was relentless rain that made it difficult to see the road or even hear each other over the din…it was rough action!
The venue, Plant Zero, is in a very cool industrial type area and it was a really great space for a show like this. (*had a camera flash problem with this shot, but you get the idea*) One of my worries for the day was bringing along our two boys. We had planned to bring a sitter/helper but the plan fell through. We totally lucked out that our booth was situated at the end of a row. We set up a little table for the boys to draw at.
Check it out…they sat there ALL day (10-4) drawing. They were cracking me up…they decided to sell their drawings and posted a sign, “Drawings for Sale, 25 cents”. But the best part was, people were actually stopping and buying them, bless their hearts! I thought of slipping a customer or two a quarter to go humor the boys, but it turned out I didn’t need to.
Do you see that black thing under the table? Um, yeah, that’s the DJ’s speaker. We only had a small space to squeeze the table in and the Richmond Craft Mafia folks were SO accommodating, they let us put the table over the speaker. I was a little worried about hearing loss, but fortunately it wasn’t too loud!
The “Bickerson Brothers” behaved all day, it was awesome. Bringing them along was my biggest worry and somehow it turned out to be the best part of the show for me. I loved having them there! I don’t know that I’d tempt fate and try it again, especially for a super busy holiday show, but this time it turned out to be a great family adventure.
I wish we had had a little more time (and better weather!) for scoping out Richmond. After the show we packed the car and got some dinner in town at Bottoms Up Pizza before heading home… yum!
Oh and by the way, since I didn’t sell out at the show, I’ll be updating my etsy shop later this week. More on that later!
Betz – Your cupcakes and teacups are so adorable! I’m so glad that you had such a good turn out and that the boys had a good time too! Ingenius little guys, huh? I hope they pocketed a lot of loot! 🙂
Glad everything worked out. Looks like it was a great time.
I did a “Spring Fling” craft show this weekend too! I am glad you were ablet to take your boys and that they were on their best behavior! It will be quite a few years before I could ever tempt that with my two little one!

Betz,
It was great to finally meet you in person. You were exactly as you are on your blog. It was awesome to see the cupcakes and Joes in person. So funny about the boys as I passed that table I thought how sweet they have a table for kids to craft.
Sorry the weather was so crappy for you. If you do make a trip back let me know as there are some great sites and places to check out.
Bottom’s Up is awesome. You would never know that during Gaston it was under water in the flooding in Shockoe Bottom. I don’t know if you saw the news on the networks, but it showed a semi that the flood water washed away that was filled with produce. If you did, it happened in that area.
Thanks for being the highlight of my week and for inspiring me with your felty creations.
~Cindy
It looks like you had a great time! Your boys were “good” and little entrepreneurs, just like mommy! Congratulations!
Your boys are so sweet! Your cakes are so sweet! You are so sweet! 🙂
I can’t stop smiling when I read your blog, thank you!
btw, I’ve ordered your book at Amazon, looking forward for reading it sooo much!
How cute are those boys!?
That is like my daughter who keeps begging me to open her own etsy shop. HeeHee! She wants to make handmade cards and sell them there. (She’s 7.)
It was very nice to meet you at the show. My mom and I thought your cupcakes were so sweet!
Glad you had a good time in Richmond. The boys look very intent on their artistry. LOL!
I just bought a big box of beautiful felted sweaters on eBay and I’m ready to craft! I have felted some of my own but I didn’t have any pretty pastels. But first I have to purchase your book. Hope there are still some in your Etsy shop.
I really enjoy your blog. Lynn
Honey, don’t you know the rule that you ALWAYS buy from children’s sale tables? I stop my car at each and every lemonade/koolade stand I see and I would have bought a drawing from your boys.
I love your stuff! I’m sorry I’m anonymous, but I can’t seem to work well with Blogger. Hah!
You can find me at http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=funkykim when I get a minute.

your cup cakes are gorgeous!!
and what clever boys you have!!
looks like you had a great adventure.
I didn’t know this existed–thanks so much for talking about it…next year I’m all over it!
Oh, it looks like a great place for a show. Great decor on the ceiling + I just love how your boys settled in like a pro and started selling their art (isn’t it great what kids learn from their parents?)
