Today is the last day of school. I’m not sure what’s more bittersweet, the first day or today! But we are ready for summer, one way or another.
There’s a heap of “outdoor toys” by the back door as they head to the park…
There’ll be popsicles ready for when they come in…
And the kitchen table will look the way it looks all year round, full of art supplies and projects…Sometimes we clear it off before a meal, sometimes we don’t 🙂
These are my old caran d’ache crayons from design school. Oh how I love these! They are smooth, come in brilliant colors and blend beautifully with water. (They are not inexpensive but if your kids learn to use them respectfully, they will benefit from using high quality materials! Amanda speaks to this topic in her book)
And me? Did I accomplish everything I intended to before school ended for the summer?
Nope. Not even close. And if this year was any indication of the speed in which time travels, summer will be over in in the blink of an eye! Hold on, here it comes!
I’m so glad you told us about your kitchen table. Ours is always covered with art supplies and projects. I push things aside, so that the kids can eat there, but rarely is it used for the family. We eat picnic style in the family room. Such a far cry from when I grew up.
I have those same crayons! Aren’t they to die for?! I use them on fabric all the time!
I get through summer by getting up at 6:00 am and getting in a couple of hours sewing before anyone stirs. The rest of the day I think, well at least I got those 2 hours in!

It is really true about the good quality tools and materials being the best for children. If they are taught early, they will know how to care for them as their creativity explodes. I tried to convince the schools that when I was teaching. Money just gets in the way unfortunately. (I bought them and shared them myself, a few kids at a time, though!) Enjoy the weekend (and the summer.)

kids really love to play with these type of stuff Like colors, toys etc.
Activities like these are very helpful for kids to develop their creativity and learning .
