Hello from New Hampshire! Our vacation is winding down. Just thought I’d pop in on the blog tonight to share this “re-creation” of the 1967 photo from the last post! 🙂 Not only are we all 41 years older than that photo, today we celebrated my parents 50th wedding anniversary! Wow! So lucky are we to have such wonderful, loving parents. I aspire to be like them.
The sun graced us with its presence for the occasion after a week of rain, storms and power outages. Of course we would’ve preferred a full week of sunshine and the comfort of electricity, but there was much catching up, hanging out and knitting to do…even if it was by kerosene lanterns!
I’m finally making some headway on my sock knitting…slowly but surely. This beautiful yarn is from Sunshine Yarns, named “beach day”! How perfect is that?
And, with the help of a library book and my sister-in-law, I learned how to crochet granny squares! They are a little wobbly, but I think I’m getting the hang of it.
Ok, off to bed..it’s late and we have a long trip ahead of us. Have a great weekend and I’ll see you back here next week!

hi !
I like your socks and crochet granny squares.
bye bye
That sock yarn is gorgeous – perfect name for it too! Well done on the granny squares (watch out though, they are addictive!)
I love that you took that photo again!!!! Something to treasure, in addition to your parents’ 50 years of marriage! Congrats!!
your granny squares look great to me! I have never been able to pick up the knack of crocheting and granny squares scare me…ahhh maybe one day!
Loved the recreation of the old photo. I recognized the pose right away. Fun! Congrats to your parents on 50 years.
that photo is amazing! how very cool to have everyone gathered again, so many yeas later, and posed the same way. i hope you’ll frame them side by side!
Oh Betz – the photo recreation is wonderful! How lucky you are that the family can make time for each other.
The sock is turning out great. I haven’t gotten up the courage to start one. I love granny squares and crocheting goes so much faster than knitting. The color combinations are great. What are you going to be making with them?

What a wonderful recreation of the family photo. Love it! I have to say; your mom gets the prize for most unchanged! 🙂
Sweet little granny squares. It’s always so fun to learn a new craft. Take care~
I love reenactments!! I do it all the time with my kids now that they are grown.
Happy 50th to your folks!
such pretty granny squares. They look like such fun to make! It is fun to see your book in book stores here in Norway!!!

What a great idea for the photo. You are lucky to have your family like that. Excellent.
Hope you are well.

what a great photo re-enactment! happy 50th anniv to your folks. 🙂
I love the updated photo! How great is that to have such wonderful memories. Sounds like you are having a great time. I love the socks and congratulations on crocheting the grannies! I recently have gotten back into crocheting and find it fun to switch back and forth between knitting and crocheting. Happy Summer.
What a wonderful photo re-enactment! Your mother doesn’t look very different from the original photo. You are a blessed girl to have everybody together. Congratulations on the 50th Wedding Anniversary. My parents celebrated their 61st just this June. I too am very blessed…both parents are living and very healthy…Mom is 83 and Dad is 86.
I love the granny squares and I love making them. I have the granny square afghan that I made my Grandmother in 1976. She kept it with her until the day she died. Wish I could make socks, but I think that is just too complicated for me…maybe some day.
Blessings and have a safe trip home, Lana Richey

Ver las fotos es como viajar en el tunel del tiempo!!!
Nada es mejor q las manualidades en el verano.
I think it is great that you recreated the photo! What a great way to honor memories!
Felicidades a tus padres!!!
What a great idea to have the family pose for a photo in the same spot 41 years on, looks like you are all having a fabulous time! (loving your hair in bunches)- lovely work on the granny squares and sock 🙂
Isn’t it wonderful that you could take a photo in the same spot and with the same people who are in the same position only it’s 41 years later!!!!! I would frame those two photos side by side and hang them in my house …. or maybe transfer them to fabric and make a quilted wall hanging out of them perhaps with some added family photos. Gosh, how many of us get to go back to someplace we were many years ago and with the same people. I love it! It brought back thoughts of where I wish I could go again. Thanks for the memories!
I have been wracking my brain to remember a website I found last year full of old photo “re-enactments”. Does anyone know it? People would photograph themselves or their families in the same position and the same spot as an old photograph from years earlier. I want to post the link! Too fun…

That is so wonderful that you all still have eachother and have such a model in your parents. I think that is rare and precious! Have fun!
That picture is so sweet!!
I have to re-comment after going back and looking at the two photos of your family. Have you noticed that your two brothers are posed in almost exactly the same position in both shots? Their arm positions are almost the same especially the one sitting next to your Mother. And you are leaning into your Father similarly in both photos. Some things never change …. and that is a good thing.

Hi Karen,
Yes, we tried to simulate the pose as well, which is why my brother on the far left has his hands that way, etc. 🙂

Looks like a wonderful time – I love all your colors!
