How was your weekend? I’m back from my whirlwind trip…still not ready to go into detail about it, sorry. Let’s just say it was good crazy fun! My trip had something to do with a cool magazine, I got to meet some editors and do lunch, and I’m crossing my fingers that I can share some exciting news with you fairly soon, k? I also got to see a few dear friends from college for extra bonus points!
Now I’m back in my studio wondering… where was I before I left?
This is my scrambled up patch-worky inspiration board these days. Lots of bubbling ideas emerging here…hopefully to grow into things to come. Any texture, pattern, graphic combination that appeals to me goes right up there. I also pin up swatches of stitching or applique techniques I am trying out.
This is the start of a color palette board. Lately I’ve been purging magazines and catalogs like a recycling fiend, but not before I go through them one last time for color inspiration. (I’m loving the orange/corals with a bit of blue or turq. Also the magenta with mustard/citron…zing!) For some reason we get Food and Wine magazine (I am so not a foodie) and I find great color combinations in there. Seed and flower catalogs are great reference as well.
Where do you find great color?
Nature photos are a great place to find interesting color combos. I browse several Flickr nature groups and add photos that interest me to my favorites. Sunrises and sunsets, closeups of flowers and foliage, and butterflies are all great color inspirations. I also like checking out the color palettes that people post on Color Schemer.
I take a photo every day and the coloured items around me are my inspiration… dewy clover, deep blue glass, my balls of yarn & sometimes even the colourless!
I get most of my color inspiration from my garden – flowers and vegetables and their contrast against the foliage. Also, the colors of my children’s clothing – such vibrant and bright colors!
Anything nature-there is a great magazine called ‘Birds and Bloom’ that my son gets thanks to grandparents that has some amazing pictures in it with a lot of color to go with it.
I love the coral/orange and turq/blue combo!
I love these inspiration boards. (they are inspiring!) I look for color inspiration at the local farmers market, in gardening magazines/catalogs, and on the trails. Some books are good too, like the new Gentle Art of Domesticity, and any Kaffe Fasset book.
Oh …I can’t wait to hear about the trip. Very stylish of you to keep it a secret!
I love inspiration boards. I think going through the magazines for ideas is a great idea. I’m so glad that we are heading into fall. It’s when I pull out all of my old magazines and decorating books and just cuddle up by the fire with a cuppa! Sometimes just to wander through a yarn shop can bring such inspiration.
Ooooh… I love to got through all the catelogs I get and find colour inspiration. Particularly home good ones. Paintings on the wall, fabrics, flooring all that kind of thing. I love them. I also cut them out, but I don’t put them up. I love colour.
Oooh I love your boards! I am always cutting out stuff for inspiration, but mine goes into scrapbooks as I haven’t anywhere to “work” as such – I blogged some pages http://miaoucrafts.com/jill/?p=20 here a while back. When I get my own space I shall do as you have done and put them up where I can look at them!
