To call it a “tummy-bug” hardly does it justice. It sounds way too cute for the havoc that it wreaked.
Imagine the scene. Twelve family members together in one home for Christmas, passing a “gift” none of us wanted. It played out like a bad (really bad) reality show. Every night we went to bed wondering which one of us was next to be eliminated by “the bug”. There was no way out. Paranoia grew as the days passed. In the end, 6 of the 9 adults were smacked down, including my husband and myself. Luckily, the 3 little cousins escaped without incident (so far!). Sunday was rough, as it was my little one’s 7th birthday and there was hardly an adult available to help celebrate it. We managed an outing to Friendly’s for lunch and ice cream (soup for me, thank you) and the new toys entertained the kids the rest of the day.
Yesterday we drove 7 + hours home on a wing and a prayer for an urp-free trip. Made it! Best present to date. We are still not feeling great, but it is SO good to be home. And though our trip was “The Nightmare After Christmas”, we did have some good snowman fun on Christmas Eve and a wonderful Christmas Day. It was great to see everyone…most of the time. 🙂
Hope your Christmas was much less eventful! I’ll be back later in the week once I’m settled and feeling chipper!
Oh no! I’m so sorry. How awful. Glad you all got home safe and sound. It’s better to be in your own home when feeling so blechy. Get better soon.
I’m so sorry you’ve all been ill, that is so rotten. A couple of my colleagues have been off work this week with a tummy bug, so it seems something nasty is doing the rounds.
This happened in our house at Christmas 5 years ago. Of our 12 only my husband escaped it. I had the weaker case since I had only tended to the sick rather than touching the toxic child. It is a wonder that such a small kid could carry such a malignant bug!
I feel for you and hope you are all 100% very soon!
I’m so sorry about your Christmas bug! UGH! We had that happen last year — our 5-year-old passed it to 8 of the 11 gathered on Christmas day. Two days later we all got hit. Definately a bad memory. This year we held our breath, but so far, so good!
Oh my, I’m so sorry you had to deal with that over Christmas but glad the kiddos didn’t get it! That’s weird though…my husband got it last Sunday and I followed on Monday and none of our three girls got it either 🙂 Hopefully you all are feeling better and can get back into the swing of things smoothly!
Happy New Year!
Hey Betz,
So glad you are back, I missed reading your blog. I’ve been checking everyday to see if you were back. Sorry your Christmas was…uhh…so smelly!! We are ready to travel to Chico Hot Springs, down by Yellowstone Park for New Year’s and to see my husband’s family(yikes). I’ve made several pairs of “puffy pants” for the trip in the hopes the boys might actually sleep for once! I just bought a new used Singer machine and am super excited to get started on some more projects. So glad you are safe and somewhat sound! Cheers, Mariah
So sorry! This sounds exactly like the last time we visited my mom’s. It started before we got there and continued through our stay. You didn’t know you had it until you were sick. Crazy stuff, germs! Glad you made it home safely.
I’m glad you all are on the mend!
We had the same adventure a couple of years ago with everyone falling to the curse like a bunch of dominos. Not fun, but certainly a memorable holiday.
Best wishes to you all!
That does NOT sound like fun, Betz! Sorry you all had to go through that! Hope you are all feeling better!! Hugs! Happy New Year! 🙂
What a bummer. I hope you are all back to feeling 100% soon.
I am glad you enjoyed your family while you were feeling well.
Take care,
susan
Hi,
Not a good break at all! Ringing around my friends over Christmas many of them have been bedridden with various illnesses. has been one of the worst Christmas breaks for sometime. Hope everyone is now on the mend.
Betz, that sounds just *awful* though I’m so glad you survived it. And perhaps one day you all will be able to look back and sorta chuckle about it. After a few glasses of wine, anyway! Here’s wishing you a healthier 2009 🙂
Betz,
That does sound mighty uninviting.
Hope the New Year finds you healthy and prosperous! The last 2 Christmas’s I have had the stomach virus, knock on wood I think I was spared this holiday.
Cheers,
Julie

ick! i know exactly how you feel. the same thing here! we are 11 people – all 5 kids have had it and 2 adults so far. i’m washing my hands like crazy and praying, praying, praying that we make it home without further incident.
hopefully, the new year will be a whole lot better! happy new year, betz.
Is it too late to join the Tum-Bug club? We all got the flu, me finishing us off on Christmas Eve, only to have hubby go into surgery! :0 So for new years, I’ll be playing Nightingale instead of fluttering like one! lol
Happy New Year!
Mere
Glad you’re feeling better now, not a fun way to celebrate with family.
One of my boys also truned 7 on Sunday, a good day for a birthday!
Thanks for sharing your talents with all of us, I’m looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us!
