I just got back from my quick trip to Philly to visit the little shop of Spool. What a beautiful shop! I wish you could see this window in person. It was made up so nicely with Sewing Green and some of my projects.
Here’s me and the lovely Laura, co-owner of the shop. She and everyone I met at the Stitch Party friday night were so friendly and welcoming, it was such a treat. Of course I forgot to take “action shots” that night of everyone chatting and milling about, but there was a nice turn out of people and they couldn’t have been more complimentary. **edit: See Laura’s photos on Spool’s Blog!**
Here’s another little vignette Laura put together on the front table. That’s one of her beautiful quilts on the table top. Loving the greens! She did a superb job of merchandising the store with the book projects as well as her own sewn creations for the store. She even made herself the Reversible Wrap Skirt from Sewing Green and wore it that night.
Me here, modeling an Easy Breezy Skirt from Sewing Green, made out of a pillow case, and wearing my SIGG bottle in the Water Bottle Sling.
Saturday’s MYOB Workshop was a great time as well. I had a small but enthusiastic and creative group. I always start of workshops as the “teacher” and by the end I am the one that learns so much from the participants. It’s such a good lesson for me to keep in mind. Exercising creativity means opening yourself up to other ideas. I’m so glad when participants say, “But what about this way?” Or “I think I’m going to make mine differently because I want mine to…”. I hope everyone that came learned something as well and enjoyed themselves.
Afterward I hopped back on the train and headed for home. Yay! Home! Good to be here. I’m feeling a little discombobulated, though. What’s your trick for travel? Some people clean before they leave so everything is tidy upon their return. I like the concept but have trouble following through. After I’m away I always feel like I have amnesia. I walk around the house saying things like, “When did this come in the mail?” or “We’re out of Diet Coke?”, “I didn’t know the boys got their report cards.”
Ok, peeps, I’ve got one more week of Blog Tour posts to finish up and some new Felt Nest Brooch Kits to post. Hope to have those ready for tomorrow!
My dad travels back & forth to D.C. via plane very two weeks. Then, he’s home for two weeks. How does he do that – not sure. I hate flying (as of late). Makes me sick to my stomach. Much prefer the ease of driving at my own pace.
I am one of “those people” who clean before they head of. Last year, we went to the Outerbanks for a week. I didn’t want to have to come home and clean anything. I totally recommend this method & driving.
Yay, Betz!! You are so cute! I wish I could take a class or two from you. Come to Madison. Please!
I think I am going to sign up for a beginner sewing class for the end of May. It is so funny, I feel kind of nervous about it: ) Too much.
Take care and I am happy that things are going so well for you and your beautiful new book.

I totally understand the change from being teacher to being someone in a group discussing interesting ideas! I love it when I teach classes of creative and imaginative students who don’t just copy what I do but go off in exciting creative journeys. That’s the whole point of a class rather than working at home with a book – sparking ideas off each other. Many of my students say that they just enjoyed working with other people around and chatting, as much as what I teach them. Sewing is a fairly solitary hobby/profession, it’s necessary to get together with other people.
Thanks so much for the peek at Spool. I’ve always wanted to visit – it’s about 1.5 hours from where I live. Now, I want to go even more. The projects from your book look great. Thanks again.

Laura is the daughter of my brother’s best friend…and gee, does she look like her Dad! Thanks for the glimpse of Loops and of Laura!
Looks like a great space and a great time, Betz! Good for you that you had the opportunity!
I am always way too frazzled up to the last minute when I’m heading out. I feel very out of sorts when I get home!!!
There was a nice review of your latest book in today’s Buffalo News in the style section. I’ll send it to you, if you’d like.
Thanks Mary Ellen, I saw it online! 🙂

Betz – When are you coming to Denver?! Seriously. I would love to meet you and take a class and I am sure there are hundreds more like me here. There is a great indie craft/fabric/yarn store here in Denver called The Fancy Tiger. They have a great space for classes and I bet they would love to have you. PLEEEEAAASE!!! If you need any help planning a visit, let me know.
A Big Big Fan,

Hey, Betz, I enjoy reading about your adventures. All best wishes for your continued success!
I’m glad you had a nice trip. That is so fabulous your host was so welcoming. She really did a great job with her shop!
This looks like fun. As a strange coincidence I have a sheet set in the same pattern as your pillowcase skirt. I’m going to go find it now…
You’re such a busy lady, I can see your beautiful book in the shop window (love the display). How cute do you look all in green? can’t believe that skirt is made from a pillowcase 🙂
I used to have sheets like the pillow case skirt too…
