My sweet family took me out for a delicious birthday brunch this morning.
I was also treated to handmade cards and this delicate little flower my 8 yr old planted in the tree stump I made in our Family Pottery Class. It’s the perfect touch!
In February and March the 4 of us took an evening pottery class together at a local art center. I never feel like the kids get enough art time in school and my husband and I really wanted to do something creative as a family that was different for all of us.
We made all sorts of pinch pots, paper weights, and other things that defy categorization. Here are 2 of my sons’ favorites: a pizza and a platypus! There’s nothing more fun (or important!) than fostering creativity, don’t you think? What creative things do you do as a family?

I love the pizza one, and the tree stump is beautiful, my husband and I will have to look into doing an art project together. We don’t have any kids yet, (so maybe that would be a creative project we could work on together…) 😀

Second – please tell your husband, from me, that I am so impressed with his willingness to do creative things with you and your children. I think that is amazing! My husband’s idea of creativity is finding new insults to yell at the hockey players on t.v.

Happy Birthday!!! That Platypus is almost an EXACT replica of the one my son made- I was trying to work out how you got a picture of it! I think it’s great you did a pottery course together. My two oldest used to do pottery every Saturday morning and they loved it. I know the two youngest would too, but it’s finding time for it. But I have a pretty much open studio policy- they can come in and play with my things when they feel the urge. As for the hubby- well he’s more music/cooking artistically inclined so we tend to more family together stuff with him (although usually not together- 6 people in our small kitchen would be too much!). Love your stump. Perfect present.

Our kids are still quite young, but we have been painting together as a family. My not so secret favourite part is when my almost 4 year old wakes up from her nap, finds me sewing, and parks herself next to me to work with me. It is a quiet time, in contrast to the chaos when they ‘help me’ me pick fabric for a project.

What a fab idea to go to a pottery class with the kiddies. I do quite a lot of creative stuff with my kiddies and bought them some clay recently which they just love to do.
