It’s no secret that I love the color green. I was looking around my studio and noticed the repetition of a particular kind of green. Seafoam. Lichen. Celadon. I love color names.
This is a gorgeous ceramic coaster I bought myself from The Broken Plate Pendant Co. a little while back, made from a vintage plate! I met Juliet, the plate breaker herself, last December at the Baltimore Holiday Pile of Craft Show. (I noticed she has some beauties in her shop!) It’s the perfect spot for my morning coffee to sit. Coffee + pretty coaster = love.
The next delicious example of subtle greeness is this felted wool potholder/trivet I made. I bought a beautiful wooden loom from Jennifer of Craftsanity with the thought that it might keep my 8 year old son busy this summer. What fun! Our first weaving was made with loops we cut out of some old T-shirts. This time I had to try it out with some felted wool sweaters (of course). I removed the ribbing then spiral-cut the sweater body to create long strips. I love the result! I should make 5 more of them and stitch them together for a super cushy bath mat.
Lastly, my knitting work-in-progress: The Vaya Shrug by the lovely Laura Nelkin (you may remember her from my Summer Duet post). I’m using Anne yarn from Schaeffer and I believe the color is called Sage. It’s a fun summer knit. I can’t wait to finish it, it’ll be perfect to put on in chilly air conditioned places.
Oh I do love green. Do you find that you gravitate towards similar shades of color? Is it intentional or coincidental?
I also gravitate towards green! With the occasional bust of yellow or orange. I especially love the tile coaster you posted.
It’s not all greens that are so special! Our bedroom is that green, and we’ve got a lot of accents in that color as well! It’s a great choice đ So calm and serene!
Green is such a calming color! Very one with nature. Great job with the knitting.
BTW-I could see an entire room planned around the color scheme in your coaster.
Thanks for sharing,
Stefanie
green has always been my fave… love it mixed with a pop of terra-cotta or coral and beach sand. I think it’s ingrained. That coaster is fabulous – totally see why you snatched it up!
I really love the light greens pictured. One of my faves. notom
Beautiful Green!!! is so pacific and it favors the concentration!

Another green fan here. I used to only wear that shade of green… I’ve “branched” out, but I’m still always drawn to it. Can’t wait to see your Vaya Shrug!
I am a green fab soo but also love that duck egg blue and most pastel colours. Mind you duck egg blue is a bit green isn’t it đ
I am the proud owner of a fabulous plate that is the ancestor of your coaster! Exciting right?! I know I know, I need to get out more… Anyway, it is reserved for cakes and pies. My daughters always know something delish is on its way when the “funky green plate” hits the table.
Green thing rule.
sweet! My and hubbys fav color as well!
Green is my favorite color too. My grands laugh that I like grass and dirt because I also love brown. I have one of those looms for pot holders but never tried the sweater deal and I have a lot of felted sweaters. I made mittens out of them in the winter.
It’s so easy being green!
I adore the color green as well. I find colors such as sage green soothing and relaxing.
i love these shades of green as well. our house is that lovely soft green color on the outside. many years ago we decided to paint the living room. we picked out a lovely yellow and painted away. when we finished, it felt like we were living in a bottle of mustard! and not in a good way. we went out for more paint and chose the same green as the outside of the house. it was not intentional. it took many years before i made the connection. i just knew it was the right color to live with. i also love a nice buttery yellow. and it looks great with these shades of green!

My grandmother and niece are going to love the ideas you have on your site! Thanks for the info.
QUESTION – Did you make the loom loops by cutting strips, sewing the ends together and using them, or is there an easier way. I like the idea of repurposing clothes – my 6 year old LOVES making these.
Whites and ivories are my downfall in nearly every thrift/junk/antique shop I fall into. From plates and platters to jugs and bowls. And it fits in with just about everything.
Wow, I am drawn to turquoise and robin’s egg blue, and most of the colors between those two. Your green is very nice!
