What is it with boys and monkeys?
As of today, my first son is 11 years old. I know I’m not alone in thinking that this *time thing* we got goin’ on here moves way too fast. So far though, this boy, is not moving too fast for his age, nor his mom.
His height reaches past the bottom of my chin, but inside he is still a little boy. Not too old to ask for a Sock Monkey for his birthday (although I do believe there was a request for an iPhone on his Christmas List…hmmm).
Silly and sweet, strong and independent, a good student, a caring friend and an awesome big brother. All in all, a great kid who seems to know who he is and is true to himself. How he’s figured that out already is beyond me, but I couldn’t be prouder of him.
Happy Birthday, C! (seems like just yesterday you were a little butterball!)
It seems like just yesterday I had a son who had a love for all things Curious George, I can relate! Of course, this same son is now married and he and our sweet daughter-in-law just informed as that we are going to be grandparents for the very first time! So I guess the moral of this post is: love your precious son, hug him and give him all the sock monkeys he wants because time really does go very, very fast and, before you know it, you’ll have grandchildren wanting sock monkeys too!
Happy birthday to your sweet boy!
My kids are the same ages as yours, and I’m so enjoying my 11-year-old. He’s gaining on me in height, and he’s so mature in so many ways, but I’m happy to report he still loves mom’s hugs and his sock monkey.
I hope you’re enjoying this age as much as we are. It’s so special.
PS: That’s the sweetest photo ever. 🙂
Too sweet! He’s an angel.
My little one has a sock monkey just like this guy (as a matter of fact he was throwing him around the room only moments ago!). They are best friends. Looks like C has found one in him as well.
Such a touching post Betz. Happy Birthday!
happy birthday to your son.. my daughter turns 11 in February and I understand about the time thing… and she too, is a little girl inside, although an independent young woman in the making… enjoy the moments
Happy Birthday to C and you!!! It’s so momentous to mark this day & reflect on all that he’s become and all that awaits. Give yourself a nice pat on the back for a job well done, Mom and Dad – he didn’t get there on his own. Molding clay baby!!!!
I just read his 8th birthday post and the whole time I was thinking: “Noooooooooo! D: “
Mine is 1. I cried when he turned 1. I’m going to cry when he turns 2. I cannot fathom the idea of an 8 year old!
Happy birthday little man!
I love this photo and story…so touching. I am so happy that this monkey found such a wonderful new best friend 🙂

Hi Betz!
It’s funny I just happened upon this post…my almost two year old son loves his monkey pillow pet. Last night he asked for his “ooh ooh, ahh ahh” pillow…
Love the holiday tutorials…I wish I was together enough to do the same with my book stuff, but maybe I can pull it together for valentine’s day! Thanks for the inspiration 🙂
