I made this fresh felty fish for my brother’s 50th birthday using Mimi Kirchner’s pattern. I had been dying to make one ever since I first saw hers a few months ago. I made him out of felted wool sweater scraps. (Check out Mimi’s etsy shop, she’s an amazing talent!)
Fish looks a little grumpy, as though sitting still for his portrait pained him greatly. I like him.
Have a great weekend!
So cute! You’re right: Mimi’s an amazing talent. I’ve been wanting to make one of her fish for ages (but haven’t even bought the pattern yet, which won’t help). Was he fast to assemble?
He was fast to assemble once I was in the assembly stage! It took me a while to decide on just which scraps I wanted to use for this since it was a gift. Mimi’s instructions are very thorough so it took a little time (well spent!) to read through everything.
I love it! It is super cute & I want one! Great job!
Thanks so much! He is adorable and cuddly looking!
My birthday is coming up… just sayin’.
He turned out beautifully!
So dang cute, I’m sure he will love it!
adorable! I will have to get the pattern and give it a try. I love the pillows that your fish is set on. Did you make them? they are beautiful.
That’s great! One of my sweet friends (who is not a crafter, just remarkably thoughtful and observant) just sent me several wool sweaters, one of which has a colorful band of fair isle that would be perfect for this. I’ve recently discovered that the scraps of washed wool left over from processing wool to spin make awesome stuffing.
He looks like the perfect 50th birthday present!I love how the ribbing makes lovely fins and tail.
Oh, he came out so cute!
Super Awesome!
Fantastic Fish, your brother is going to love it! Excellent work.
such a cool fish! what a unique use of up/recycled sweaters.
Okay, you don’t know me from Adam. But I have your hedgehog pattern – driven to it by my daughter – and I am charmed beyond the dreams of – maybe not avarice, but something like it in the making-things vein. I think you have a delightful mind. There’s this quilt store a couple of towns down, and when I go there, I always find myself sort of injected with this high hue energy. I get the same feeling when I visit your blog. Just thought I’d tell you so.
Thanks for your lovely comments! I really appreciate each and every one of them. Mimi inspired me and I am thrilled to be able to pass it on and inspire my readers. 🙂
