Yesterday after school, my boys finished their homework then ran off into the park on a mission: to build a leprechaun trap!
My only participation was to satisfy a request for “green food” to be used as bait. How ’bout celery? (best I could do on short notice)
First thing this morning they ran out to check the trap. Empty. Wandering home with hands in pockets, they decided to check again after school today. Maybe they’ll get lucky?
Hope today’s your lucky day! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I laughed when I saw the pics – My son and I used to set a trap for Leprechauns every year (he’s now 25!)…of course, they are very elusive little creatures and we never caught one nor saw the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow…I have to tell you though, Leprechauns like shiny objects…tin foil, jewels, sparkly things so you might want to add them to your trap! You never know, you might get lucky!! Good luck! xo, Nan
That’s so cute. When I was a child, I constructed a bed from twigs and scrap fabric for the leprechauns to sleep in. I scattered little shiny shamrocks on the floor and placed a plastic cauldron (reused from Halloween) filled with sparkling gold beside the bed. My mom kindly pulled back the covers before I woke up to give the illusion the bed had been slept in. First thing in the morning on St. Patrick’s Day, I checked the bed and was happy to see the blankets were mussed up and the “pot o’ gold” was empty.
My sister and I would spend hours doing the same thing! We were often erecting some sort of trap for the boogie man in our sandbox.
How cute! You should go drop a few gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins by the can. Happy St. Paddy’s Day!
oh my this brings back memories! when my boys were in kindergarten, their teacher (they had the same one three years apart) always had the kids my lep. traps…they always set them up in hopes of catching one of those pesky fellows…they never did, but the rascals made lots of mischief in their rooms while they were at school putting chairs on the beds, turning things over and triping the trap…once, one lost his funny green hat on the way out the window! fun times.
how adorable is that idea!
Smiles, Andra
haha! boy its fun to be a kid! ^-^
Love the leprechaun trap! It would have worked with an empty Guiness container.
Thanks for this, and the nice memories it brings back. When my son made fairy rings, he often found that they’d visited during the night because there was glitter (fairy dust) on the ground nearby the next morning. The leprechauns left green glitter.
My son used to set these traps in his bedroom, using “gold” as bait (a shiny penny). The closest he ever got was to get a NOTE from a leprechaun! He loved that.
I totally remember doing that when I was a kid. We used the old shoe box propped up with a stick trick, and the bait was a green piece of mint chocolate and some pyrite. So cute!
What a wonderful way to celebrate the day!!
