I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Amy Barickman a few years ago at Quilt Market. She and I are also what I call “book buddies”, as we were both featured in the Country Living book, “The Mom’s Guide to Running a Business”. If you are not familiar with Amy, she is the driving force behind the company Indygo Junction, authored a fabulous book called Vintage Notions and now has her own fabric line with Red Rooster Fabrics. Check out her new video, below, to get the back story on her book.
Isn’t she awesome?! That’s how she is in person too…full of energy and passion about what she does. Inspiring, right?
Her fabric, called The Dressmaking Collection, has all sorts of detailed imagery taken from vintage illustrations, labels and trims. And guess what? Amy has graciously allowed me to give-away a copy of her book, Vintage Notions, to one of my readers as well as a full set of Fat Quarters of her fabric collection!
All you need to do is comment on this post before midnight EST on Sunday, January 22. In your comment I’d love to know who you sew for and what types of things you love to make. I’ll contact the winner (be sure you leave contact info!) on Monday January 23.
In other exciting news, Amy’s got a design challenge happening right now called the Vintage Inspired Modern Style Design Challenge. And there’s all kinds of prizes involved! So visit Indygo Junction to find out all of the details.
I hope you are as inspired by Amy as I am….good luck and have a great weekend!
***UPDATE: Comments now closed, thank you!***
I’m still a sewing novice and am better at the dreaming than the actual completion–but I sew aprons for myself and skirts for my tween daughter (who is also sewing–better than me.) Vintage patterns and notions are so appealing to me.
I sew mostly quilts now, but clothes too and lots of gifts.
I make alot of quilts as wedding, birthday and holiday gifts. Eventually I have to make one for myself! I love the fabrics shown in the picture – I am drawn to retro/vintage styles.
This book looks wonderful. I like to sew for my children and for my home mostly.

Would love to put this to good use . . . I sew for myself and also my neice.
Love vintage clothes! I’m a beginner and right now I love sewing cushion covers. I have some books and try to learn from them, for Christmas I sewed some cosmetic cases for my mother and sisters.
Amy fabrics are very nice.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I sew for my family and myself. I also sew for pocket money by putting things on Etsy and Folksy – bags and purses mostly. Lovely fabric. Thanks for the chance to win it.
I really don’t know if I would even call myself a novice when it comes to sewing. I’ve done a few curtains for my house but I think it was a stroke of incredible luck that all the seams have stuck 🙂
This year I plan on becoming a proficient sewer (tailor?) so I think this book and fabric would be a great way to explore and grow 🙂 Fingers crossed!
Thanks!
I find I have phases of what I like to sew, at the moment I’m into intricate quilt blocks. Most of what I make is for family gifts. Love the look of those fabrics.
Thanks so much for the chance! I love this fabric 🙂 I like to make quilts (rag quilts, especially), applique, bags, aprons… My goal this year is to try a dress!
I sew things that can be used– pot holders, cloth napkins, quilts. And I love to sew for home, friends and family! My favorite textiles to use are vintage linens, so this book really appeals to me. Thanks for the giveaway!
Wow! Thanks for this opportunity. I don’t do as much sewing these days as I used to. I am mainly a cross stitcher but use fabrics often for finishing sewing smalls. However, I do have a 1 year old grangaughter and will most likely sew for her. I love anything “needle” related!!!

I have a new little grandson that I’m really excited to sew for. What a great giveaway!
What a grate opportunity to win this book and a set of Fat Quarters. Amazing. Thank You!
First, thank you for a great giveaway. All of my quilts have been gifts for new babies, sick friends, birthdays, Christmas. For Christmas this past year, I made every girl in the family a zipper pouch and gave one as a favor to every daughter at my Mother/Daughter Holiday Brunch. That was a boat load of pouches!
LOVE the vintage fabric for making aprons, bags and who knows what else! But I really LOVE the book. I sew for one of my friends who’s a singer and it would be a great source of inspiration for some of the outfits I make for her.
Wow so nice. These are beautiful fabrics. I love making quilts but with a new babe I’ve been enjoying smaller projects. I love giving what I make as gifts whether for my kids, hubby, friends, or charity. Thanks for the chance to win.
I sew for myself, easy stuff (skirts, blouses etc)but my main focus is finishing for needlepoint projects(most anything but pillows…never can figure out how to prevent dog ears) and I am incubating sewing notions /accessories right now. I would use the fabrics for needle cases and other sewing accesories. Thanks for chance to enter.
Amy is an inspiration, as are all of you women who successfully balance family, faith, and your passion for craft! It is a treat for you to share your talent.
I loved the video of Amy, she really inspires me. I sew for my daughter, my two granddaughters, my sisters, my daughter-in-law and myself. Basically I sew for all the members of my family depending on the need or occasion. I make quilts, clothing, accessories, aprons, purses, home decor, just about anything I can sew or craft with fabric. I also have a creative blog I feature my creative work on.
Ciao!
Sono Simona e scrivo dall’Italia. Amo cucire piccole borse, sacchetti porta scarpe, tovagliette, grembiuli, cose molto semplici!
Il tuo blog mi piace moltissimo e mi piacerebbe tanto partecipare al tuo Giveaway
I sew mostly for myself, making purses and pj pants, and things for around the house.
These fabrics are adorable. My challenge to myself this year is to learn to quilt. These would make a lovely little quilt to put in my sewing room. Beautiful.
I would love to own this book! Perfect for the cold winter days.
I sew clothes for my girls and I want to start working on a quilt!
Oh my goodness! I had seen this fabric (and loved it) but I had no idea whose line it was. Thanks for solving the mystery.
I used to do a lot of sewing for my daughter – dresses, doll clothes, Halloween costumes, quilts. She’s now 19 and in university so the opportunities are more limited, but I still sew mostly for her and, of course, for the house as well as gifts for friends and new babies (I love sewing for new babies!).
What a great giveaway.
I sew for myself, for our home, for gifts, and for my children. I just love making things – clothing, pillows, recycled things. It’s in my genes.
I sew with and for friends and family.Signed up for a class from craftsy this year and hope to improve my skills.
My sewing projects tend to be aspirational as my quilt is still unfinished 5 years later. Otherwise, the last time I sewed was for a friend and I love to sew bags because you can never have too many.
I have to say that I don’t really sew for anyone, but at the same time I sew for everyone. I love to sew and like to set myself new challenges. Some of the things I make end up in my etsy store, some around the house, and quite a lot my daughter ends up with. I’ve made 11 quilts in the last few years, but only kept 2 of them! I like to make bags and cushions and curtains. I like to use up fabric scraps. To me fabric is a bit like paint and it doesn’t really matter what I make it into, I just enjoy the process.
I sew quilts, clothing….just about anything that is useful. I’m not good at making pure art. I love to sew for my family and friends and my home.
Such fun fabric!
I love to sew, and have been sewing since I was a little girl. I mostly quilt now, with some tote bags and home dec thrown in. I’d like to get back to a little bit of garment construction, but honestly need a class for that. I love to sew for friends and family. Charity quilts are a favoritie project, I can try new things every time.
I love to sew for babies. Projects are always finished within a satisfying time period. I love to look for vintage patterns on Ebay. I love the graphics on the front of them.
Thanks for the giveaway-I love the preview! I sew and quilt for my family and friends, I make T-shirt quilts for some extra cash, and I love to make bags and totes, for me and for family members. I also enjoy making little gifts for my nieces!
I like to make gifts with fabrics and quilts. Would really love to win this contest!
Thanks for the chance to win some fabric-love the fabric line! I sew and quilt for my family and friends. I have made 2 king size quilts for myself too! I especially like making gifts for my 2 nieces. I have been sewing for many years and it is so relaxing.
This is fabulous. I want that book! A lot of my sewing is just hand stitching felt ornaments (have your heart for felt!) but I do own a sewing machine that I go on adventures with from time to time. My last project was a wedding veil and my future sewing project will be curtains for the kitchen! Thanks for introducing miss Amy to me!
This would be fun-I do gifts at Christmas and birthdays. What a nice collection to have.
I like to make all kinds of things but at the top of my list now are purses that I am designing that I will be selling on Etsy eventually. Most of the materials I will be using are vintage feed sack materials, old quilts, old chenille bedspreads, as well as upcycling clothing. Thanks! Annette [email protected]
I sew many different things. I like sewing quilts as well as small items. I usually make things for gifts or special occasions.
I LOVE sewing and will happily turn my hand to most things. I am fortunate to sell much of my work, namely bags, art dolls and free machine embroidered pictures. Annie S
Thanks so much for sharing this. I just love vintage and homemaking lessons from the past. I had never heard of this institute before, I’m anxious to learn more about it. I haven’t sewn very much but I really enjoy it. I mostly make bags. I would love to start making my own clothes too. Love the fabric Amy designed…can’t wait to see more!
ThNk you & happy day to you.
Kimm
I sew for my children and friends, and also have my own business making childrens’ clothing from organic cotton and recycled vintage cotton.
I usually sew for myself and family members — not clothes, but crafty stuff. Thanks for the great giveaway!
I sew for my kids and grandkids and I love to make quilts for them, they really appreciate them most of the time. I also like to make felted crafts, out of felted wool and wool sweaters. I have both your books:)
I sew clothes for me but have strayed into sewing for others and am living to regret it as there are so many pitfalls that it’s nerve wrecking! I also sew for stalls and my little etsy shop and make countless gifts for family.
Thanks for a lovely giveaway!
I mainly sew for my girls but also love to do household items – pillow covers and the like. I’ve yet to sew clothing for myself.
Thanks for the chance to win this awesome package!
As much as I love to sew, I’m not very good at it lol. I love making things for my sons, softies, baby quilts, bags… Please enter me 🙂
I do sew for myself- bags, pincushions, aprons, pillows, quilts, etc- but I often sew for others. I make a lot of wedding or baby presents, or sometimes things to brighten someone’s day.
I like to make aprons and potholders for friends and also embroider floursack dishcloths for people. I like to dress up kitchen towels with a strip of pretty fabric. I like to make Christmas gifts- I made my friend a treeskirt and matching stockings for her first married Christmas. For babies I’ve made blankets, booties, burp cloths and even a teddy bear.
I work with teenage girls at church and help them with sewing too. We made wallhangings recently and as a group made a quilt to donate to charity.
I love to sew and embroider, it makes me happy.
I am still just a beginner sewer, so I am trying my hand at flat things right now… and mostly for me, until it gets good enough to give away!
I sew for fun, I sew for gifts, and lately I sew to try to put a dent in this fabric stash. I want to make practical and pretty things without shopping for MORE! Thanks, Betz.
I sew for my kids (4, 6, 8). I like to sew small projects since I feel like I will actually get them finished!
What an inspiring & generous give a way – the fabrics are wonderful and the book looks great! I sew for myself as well as for gifts for others….I like to sew almost anything – quilts, home accessories, dolls…I could go on and on!
I am a quilter, so I love fabric, but the book looks amazing.
I sew for myself and for gifts for friends and family, including 2 young granddaughters. I enjoy sewing clothes, totes/bags, quilts.
So much I woud love to sew – too many projects with very little time. I have an almost two year old daughter that I have made a few items for and hope to make more clothing for her. I love quilting too and am inspired by all the beautiful fabric that is out there!
Love the fabric! Thanks to her (and you) for the giveaway. I mostly sew for the house and crafty sewing projects for work, always looking for the inspiration to see for myself more.
What a nice feature you did on the book. It really drew me in.
I’d like to go back to making my own clothes again but also to make small useful gifts for others. I like the idea of raising the value of hand-made so that it becomes more the norm than the exception.
Thanks for the links. I’ll now go check out the blog and the contest (and the fabric line and…
I’m making lap quilts out of leftovers. Stripe therapy! Mostly do sewing for our home and also a little bit for the new addition to the family.
TWeekes
I sew for my four daughters, skirts, blankets, quilts, coats, purses, etc all sorts of fun things! I love LOVE, fabric!
Thanks, Betz! What an exciting giveaway!
I’m just a beginner! I’m trying to get up the courage to tart my very first quilt! Amy @ gasudimack(at)sbcglobal(dot)net
I love your books and blog and would love to win this giveaway.
I sew for female family members–bags and pouches, felted mittens, ironing board covers.

Mostly, I sew for myself and my home— quilts, placemats, table toppers, potholders… I have sewn for friends and family members, though, and am so excited that I have a new (our first) granddaughter that I will be sewing for as she grows up! I’m so looking forward to making cute little outfits for her! 🙂
I sew for myself and my two boys. Not surprisingly, my project interests always change. Right now I’m into lounge pants, pillowcases, sundresses, and quilts.
I tend to sew a lot of quilts, especially for my niece and nephew but I am currently working on a quilt for my younger brother. If I’m sewing for “me” it’s the occasional pillow cover, zip pouch or apron.:)
I mostly sew for my toddler daughter, as well as quilts, and home decor.
Thanks for the chance!

Thank you so much for a great giveaway!
I sew for anyone who wants something 🙂 Mostly i sew bags but I also make cushion covers, door stops and quilts. I love to try new things and often reuse fabrics or clothes that people have given me.
Hola soy Peña y vivo en España. Me encanta coser toda clase de manualidades. Hace tiempo que sigo todas tus entradas y soy tu seguidora, Me ha ecantado el video!!. Saludos desde Zaragoza(España). Peña
What a fantastic giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity to win. I mostly use fabric for crazy quilting, and especially like to make my quilts out of cottons rather than fancy fabrics. And I love vintage notions. I’ve been collecting buttons and threads for years. Once again, many thanks!
I sew for myself, my family, and my customers. I love vintage notions. I’ve been collecting them for a while from family members and flea markets. Both my mother and grandmother are sewists, so I guess it’s in my blood.
[email protected]
Betz, what an awesome giveaway! Mostly, I sew purses, art dolls, I embellish thrift store clothing, and also some art cards. A little hodge podge of items. :O)
Thanks for hosting the giveaway!
I make quilts. I almost always have a recipient in mind, usually a mom-to-be or a family member. I also make wall-hanging quilts just for myself to try out new techniques or experiment with color. If they turn out well, I have a gift all planned. This year for the first time, I am attempting a quilt for my own bed. It seems selfish some how. If I win this so cool looking book and fabric, you may contact me at alyvega84 at gmail dot com. Thanks!
I have checked that book out of the library and loved it!
I prefer handsewing and love to sew little accessories: brooches, zip cases, embroidered pillows. However, my kids get their own personal time with mom on a rotation and they usually request we sew together. Right now we are making “angry birds” in turn for each child.
I love the fabric and would love to own Amy’s book. I love fabric and I have control myself so I don’t go crazy buying it. Thank you for the opportunity to win!
What a lovely give away. I sew for my children and family mainly, I have made a bag, a pencil case and some little dolls so far (I am new to sewing :-)). Those fabrics look lovely though so maybe if I did win I would make something for me 🙂 x
Thanks for the chance! My most recent sewing has been of photo walls hangings. I gather photos from recent family events and transfer them to fabric. I then quilt them into a collage for hanging. I intend to begin lining some felted purses that I’ve done, but I need to get my machine serviced first!
My 4 year-old daughter is the recipient of most of my handmaids: sweaters, dresses, pillowcases, curtains, dolls… and I’m hoping to branch out into quilts! There is something comforting about surrounding someone I love with things I’ve made for them. But I’m hoping to sew up some treasures for myself soon, too. I think I could use some self-care, no?
Thanks for this giveaway.
I love the fabrics, have made several of her aprons and would love to add this book to the library in my creative space…Thanks for the opportunity to be in the drawing.
Kristin
I am on a applique jag right now – and making aprons for my daughter, who is a florist. Vintage-look fabric and notions really make me happy – I guess when push comes to shove, I am just an old fart! 🙂
I’ve always worked large…sewing backdrops for theatrical productions and as a scenic artist, I would then paint…usually 30 feet X 50 feet or so. Now I sew curtains for our home, and bibs for my babies! I Just ordered your Warm Fuzzies book since I’ve always been good at shrinking wool sweaters on accident! I love to recycle fabric ever since I saw a quilt my grandmother made out of her children’s old clothes. 🙂
Great giveaway! I love to smock and primarily sew heirloom garments for my grandmother’s hope chest; I also do a lot of charity sewing through my ASG chapter. Lately I have been re-purposing thrift store garments and felting wool sweaters.

Currently, quilting is my passion but I like to incorporate fabrics into a myriad of crafty projects. It’s a great medium and its pliable properties lend itself to unconventional uses. I prefer making my gifts instead of mindlessly scouring shopping centres for less than satisfying purchases. It gives me pleasure to gift my family and friends with things infused with thoughtfulness and love.
I love to make things for my family … my most recent thing has been making cashmere hats from old sweaters, they are warm and snuggly.
I would Love to win this book! I live on a 1930s historic district farm. Most days I dress in the cotton dresses and aprons that I sew for myself and others. I enjoy sewing quilts on my treadle machine, too. Thank you for this give-away!
I sew quilts mostly, and mainly for my family!
Thanks for a great giveaway!
I like to sew for anyone who I think will appreciate handmade–lots of times, I start with a project, without a recipient in mind. Quilting and making clothing are my faves. 🙂
I’m a sewing novice, too – I still need help with even the most basic things! My sister always had more patience than me, and I used to pay her with my babysitting money to sew for me when we were in high school. But this year, I am going to take a class at JoAnn Fabric And Crafts store, and start trying to use some of the fabrics and notions I have been collecting for years. I am planning to start with fairly simple things, like making pillow covers out of vintage fabrics. Thank you so much for giving us all a chance at winning this fabulous giveaway!
i mostly sew for expectant friends (i guess I’m at that age). and i love anything I can finish in an afternoon because i don’t have a lot of extra room.
I sew for some of my “kid friends”. 🙂 They are usually easy to please. I sew for new mothers a bit too (again easy to please – just put that new baby’s name on anything and they will love it).
I sew costumes for our Church Childcare and that is fun for me. I can be creative and the children ALWAYS make my work look beautiful 🙂
I sew for myself sometimes – I AM certainly my difficult “customer”
Seldom can I please myself.
I find though – that if I put my “creation” in the closet and take it out months to years late – I then like it. ? Wonder what that means?
Just a bit crazy 🙂

i love sewing clothes for my 3 kids (soon to be 4) and myself!
Mum taught me to sew when I was about 5 & I haven’t really stopped since. I started making clothes when I was 10 & did my first patchwork as a teenager. I sewed clothes for my children & got back to quilting in my late 20’s. I’m now 51 & I sew pretty much every day. Last year I set a challenge & I made all my gifts, rather than buying them, for my friends & family. I enjoyed it so much I’m doing it again this year. We’re currently doing over our house ‘Vintage’ so I’m also making things to suit.
beautiful! what a lovely giveaway! i sew mostly little quilty things, some felt and lots of hand sewing…patching even! patching for the men of the household, fun doodads for friends and me!
Hi.
My name is Carmela and I am expecting my first baby (Abigail) in March. I started sewing less than 6 months ago…started wanting to sew headbands, and then found free patterns in some websites and decided to give it a try. I am loving it, but have plenty to learn yet. So I am pretty much preparing all sorts of things for my baby tiny little cotton dresses and upcycled sweater dresses and pants.
I sew for my family primarily, but I’ve started selling some of my sewn items on Etsy. When I returned to sewing several years ago, I started with a knitting needle roll, and then got a quilting tutorial. I had aspirations to sew everyone in my family a quilt, but I’ve only followed through on two of them (I need motivation, and the two quilts were graduation and wedding gifts). I still need to do one for us, though…
I have grown more confident with my project selection, though, and have branched into bags, baby pants, and a skirt for myself.
those fabrics look so fun! Colour wise and graphics.
My goal for this year, as a continuation of last year, is to sew birthday presents for friends of my 2 children. Last year, I only bought 2 presents for boys. they are a little harder @ 6-7 yrs.
Bags, mittens, sundresses, doll clothes, anything and everything. A freshly pressed seam soothes the soul. Especially with my new machine and semi- cleaned sewing room…
Thanks for sharing
These days I mostly sew for my children, family and friends. I rarely make anything for myself! I do love to quilt, though, and am finally making a lap quilt for myself (and for my family to enjoy too). I also love to sew children’s clothing. Thanks for the chance to Win! 🙂
I sew gifts for family & friends. I also sew a ton of fabric postcards for swaps I’m in. My favorite right now are the postcards b/c of all the different techniques I can try.
Thanks for the great giveaway!

Wow! That a generous giveaway, thank you and Amy so much!
I usually make toys for my little sister and my friends, and small things like coin purses. I’ve started two patchwork projects but they are still in process because I’m a beginner 🙂
Hugs,
Tatyana
Thank you for this great giveaway. I sew small bag ans presents for friends and family. I have also made some small quilts. I love the vintage fabric and this book looks amazing!!!
I haven’t had the nerve to gove any of my sewing projects away yet, but I am planning to give my niece a quilt for her upcoming wedding – wish me luck!!!
I’m still a sewing novice, so still practicing. I’ve made an apron for myself and some burp cloths for a friend’s baby shower, but hope to make a quilt and other home decor items someday.
I love making things for my kids — so lots of toys, bags, and PJs! Thanks for the chance to win!
I sew clothes for my children, and occasionally for myself. I also enjoy making things for the home, such as pillows or curtains. I have been admiring all the wonderful modern quilts I see and am hoping to try my hand at a quilting project soon.
Thanks for the giveaway! I mostly sew for my granddaughters.
What a great give away!! I mostly sew for babies. Little shoes and skirts for baby shower gifts. I also sew costumes if the need arises.
I’ve been sewing since I was a child and these days mostly make cosmetic bags, handbags, bibs, passport holders etc. I sew for myself and my friends. Love the fabric in this range!!!
I’ve been sewing for almost 50 years. I was practically a baby when I learned!
I enjoy your blog and Indygo Junction patterns. I sew for myself and for the house and for gifts from clothing to drapes to quilts.
I love to sew dresses and handbags for myself. Stitch fabric is the best! I just finished two dresses and a bag using four different fabrics from the collection. I am so thankful to you Betz for designing great organic fabric.
Lately, I’ve mostly sewn for my adorable neighbours (princess and prince capes), and the boring but-oh-so-necessary task of making curtains. We just realized yesterday that cushions for our kitchen stools would make them a lot more inviting to sit upon, and this lovely fabric would work very well, I think. In any case, the collection looks lovely – I love vintage-inspired fabrics.

Hey Jan,
I’d love to see what you sewed from Stitch! Please send photos if you have them!
Thanks,
Betz
I mainly sew for my boys (pants…many, many pants) and for the house (curtains, duvet covers, napkins, etc.) I’d love to get into some sewing for myself as well.

I still sew for my sons( teenagers though they be)~ and myself. Sometimes its just the thing.

What a wonderful giveaway! It’s all beautiful.
I sew quilts for myself, quilts for friends and family, and a lot of baby gifts (bibs, burp cloths, etc).
I haven’t sewn anything for some time, but I grew up sewing my own clothes and then got into quilting. Now I’m busy with work, kids, school, etc. However, a friend of mine is going to have a baby this summer and I would love to make a quilt for her. So much fun to use some new fabrics!
Betz:
I will be happy to take photos of my Stitch dresses and bag to send to you later this week.
I sew for my family…immediate and extended, school children, community donations, volunteer alterations for the school plays, and myself. I mostly make quilts, purses and bags, stuffies and lovies for little ones. Sewing keeps me connected to my grandma’s spirit and that creative outlet we all need. Thanks for the giveaway!
Love this fabric! My favorite sewing is making quilts for my graddaughters and “Quilts of Valor”. Your creativity is inspiring – Thanks!
