I leave my socks on the kitchen table. Just the ones I’m knitting. And really, it’s any knitting, not exclusively socks. Lately I have been posting my sock knitting progress on Instagram. Occasionally I get comments that I must be a fast knitter. I’m not at all. I’m more of an opportunistic knitter.
I find that there is a lot of waiting that happens in the kitchen. Waiting for dinner to finish cooking, water to boil, coffee to brew, etc. I can sit at the table in the dim light of the morning with my sleepy middle schooler. He eats, I knit. We are together without talking. Later when my younger son is up, it’s the same thing. We hang out. He has my attention but not in a helicopter hovering kind of way. And it’s good for me, too. Knitting takes the edge off what can sometimes be a mad dash to get people out of the door. Breath in, knit a stitch. Breath out, knit a stitch. (it helps if the knitting is no-brainery)
I used to try to squeeze in a little work in the mornings, between the time kid 1 and kid 2 left for school (a whole hour and a half!). And sometimes I do a little email stuff. But I’m finding that a cup of coffee, some knitting, and sitting still for a moment is a an amazing way to ease into the day.
Have a great weekend. I hope you manage a little “sitting still” time for yourself!
I too keep knittin gin the kitchen, just something small and mindless in the hope that it will stop me from snacking. Feel hungry? Knit a few stitches, run out of time for a snack as children beckon!
Hi littleblackduckblog,
That is another great reason! Snack prevention…keep those hands busy!
Betz
I been taking my knitting to work and trying to get a few stitches in during my lunch. Helps me relax and my mind of work for a few minutes. Good therapy!! Just wished my lunch was a little longer on some days!
I play the Appalachian lap dulcimer, and I find if I leave it out where I pass it as I walk through the house, I’m more likely to pick it up and practice a little. The same idea as leaving knitting out on the table. I keep a small knitting project in the car to work on while waiting for someone, too.
I seem to have a project on needles in every room these days. I’m not sure why as I have always been a “one project at a time” kind of gal!
smart! i always have knitting in the car, but never thought to leave it out in the kitchen. brilliant idea.
Super.:)
…and cap on my kitchen table…soon to be seen…:D
My kitchen is more like an oversized pantry. No room for a table….not even a chair! However that doesn’t stop me from having a project in plain sight that I can pick up whenever I have a spare moment.I’m currently doing a shawl in laceweight
Each row has 481 stitches,so whenever I have 27 minutes (yes, I timed it)I push myself to get er done.Nice to see I’m not alone !
The socks are looking great! I was thinking of you today as I was buying some of your Stitch Organic fabric online. I can’t wait to get it in the mail. I am going to make the Stitch-along Tote.
This is a brilliant idea, I might start doing it! Amazing 🙂
