The pattern includes instructions for three pillow designs: The Square, Rectangular and Round Pleated Pillows. They are bursting with texture, dimension and style! Each uses pre-cut quilting strips or scraps from your stash and will add a fun splash of color to your home décor. I had such a great time developing these last fall at a time when our household was all about origami. The boys were doing a lot of paper folding and that inspired me to do the same with fabric!
The Square Pleated Pillow uses 2 strips sewn together then stitched down into cascading rows of folds. The result is sort of a rippled effect with loads of depth and texture.
The Rectangular Pleated Pillow is great for beginners. Each pleat is tucked with a bit of hand stitching, essentially smocking the front of the pillow.
The Round Pleated Pillow uses folded strips to create a bold flower effect. This pillow is the most challenging of the three, but it is very achievable with a satisfying result. All three pillows are shown here with my Stitch Organic fabric collection.
You might remember my how-to from a few months ago, the Perfect Strap Tutorial. I used this technique to press the sewn and turned strips and it worked like a charm!
I showed these pillows last fall in my Quilt Market Booth (maybe you can spot them here) and they drew quite a bit of attention. I promised folks I’d have the pattern ready in January and I just made it under the wire! The PDF version of The Pleated Pillow Trio is now available in my etsy shop or on Craftsy for instant download.
Beautiful! I’m currently working on making a slip cover for the sofa, so I’ve pinned your post for later when I’m ready to move on to pillows.
Great! Good luck with the sofa, that must be quite an undertaking!
These are just wonderful!
Thanks, Tracy! They’re actually pretty fun to make!
Love these! Cannot wait to try making them! You make the neatest things!
Those are adorable, Betz! I especially dig the round version. 🙂 xo
So colourful and bright! I have to make exactly the same.
