One afternoon, a few years ago when I was writing my second book, Sewing Green, I asked my boys to please play quietly. I had a big deadline coming up and I needed to concentrate on my work. Later when the neighbor boy rang the doorbell, my son dutifully told the boy that he could not come in, because of his mom’s deadline. To which the boy replied,
This has become an ongoing family joke. Watch out, mom has a dead lion. You do not want to go in there. I have become the lion slayer! Now I would never in a million years want to slay a real lion, but sometimes I feel like a lion slayer nonetheless.
Today I turned in a big chunk of book projects and I am exhausted and overwhelmed. I shouldn’t be surprised, I have been down this path twice before! Fortunately, our Spring Break is upon us and I’m going to take a few days off to enjoy it. Hopefully, I will come back refreshed and ready to tackle the next ferocious task!
P.S. Oh! I almost forgot. My Esty shop has a new feature: Instant Downloads for all 24 of my PDF sewing and craft patterns! This is a win-win. Once you order, there is no waiting for me to email your pattern to you. Just click the download button and get your pattern lickity-split! That makes me happy and saves me time…no more emailing patterns. Woo hoo!
Okay, One, Congratulations!! on getting your chunk of book projects done. yay! Two, how do you get that instant download feature? Is that new to etsy or do you need to do something special? Three, enjoy an awesome spring break, my dear. It is well-deserved!
Thanks, Anne! If you join the etsy “digital items” team they will make that feature available in your shop. I think it’s still in the early stages so they haven’t made any big announcements about it.
Instant downloads how wonderful.Love the lion slayer story. In our family we have a story about Sewing Green also. Having been raised on a farm, recycling was a natural thing to do. My college aged daughter thought it was something 20 year olds had discovered and when she heard that my husband had a meeting in New York City she insisted that I tag along with him and go to a place called Purl Bee and get the authograph of a new author who knew all there was to know about recycling.Well……he got lost…..we missed the hours of the book signing and I was not happy with him . I had my daughters book in hand when I finally arrived at the shop and told my sad tale to the clerk about getting lost and how disappointed my daughtter would be.The “clerk” listened to my sad tale patiently and then informed me the she was Beth White and would be only too happy to sign my daughters book.In my mind I kept saying “I thought she was a redhead” Outwardly all I could stammer out was a thank you. You are known as one of the few people that left mom speechless. I will tell the children your story in hopes that they will forget about mine.
Oh my, what a great story! I actually do remember that day, and you, coming in flustered. Thank you so much for taking the time to come see me and to remind me of that day.
Love your story!
HUZZAH on getting such a big chunk in on time! Slay that lion grrl!
I love that! As a mom who sometimes has to ask my kids to respect my work needs, I wish I had a cute story like that too.
