Mmmm, nothing like a big fancy dollop of whipped cream to top off your hot chocolate! Today I’m sharing a Felty Whipped Cream Tutorial for my Hot Chocolate Ornament from the Holiday Stitch-along Ornament Club.

Whipped cream is a fun alternative to the mini-marshmallow instructions that come with the pattern.

This little cream puff originally topped my Cup o’ Joe Pincushions way back when. Here I’m adding a mini-jingle bell for a little extra holiday shine and sound.

Another fun way to customize your cup is to add an initial instead of the snowflake. I decided to embroider mine with a chain stitch using baker’s twine. I love how peppermint-y it looks!

Ok, on to the tutorial! You’ll need:
  • a scrap of white felt
  • a needle and white thread
  • a disappearing ink marker
  • scissors

Trace the base of a spool (mine a has a 1 3/16″ diameter) onto the white felt three times. Cut out the three circles. Fold each one like a taco, and stitch down the center (above right). I used my machine but this can be done by hand if you prefer.

Hold the three stitched “tacos”in between your fingers, with the folds together. Stitch the centers together with a needle and thread. Then push the needle up through the center and stitch the tacos together at the top.

Now your tacos have been magically transformed into a dollop of whipped cream! 🙂 I stitched a mini jingle bell on top but you could add bead “sprinkles” instead. Next apply a little glue to the fold side of the dollop and place it on top of the hot chocolate. Delish!
