Here is it, the first new Betz White Sewing Pattern of 2015!
The Field Study Fold-over Tote adapts to your needs. This versatile bag features a zippered top closure with handles that fold down, allowing you to carry your essentials with ease. There’s a back pocket with a magnetic snap closure for easy access. Inside there’s a zippered pocket and a padded slip pocket sized to fit a tablet. As needed, the Field Study Bag expands to a tote with a removable shoulder strap, ready to handle whatever your day brings. The finished measurements are 17” H x 16” W x 2” D.
I love this bag! It’s got 2 sets of D-rings to multiply the ways it can be carried. Shown above, the adjustable strap is clipped to the lower set of D-rings. In this position the top of the bag folds over like a flap. The back side has an exterior slip pocket with magnetic snap closure. Perfect for accessing boarding passes or gum. You know, important stuff.
Move the strap up to the top set of D-rings and the bag expands, putting the zippered opening at the top. Now it can be worn as a shoulder bag. And fit more stuff!
Lastly, you can carry the bag as a tote by the short handles and let the strap dangle or remove it completely. The interior of the bag has small zippered pocket as well as a padded slip pocket with velcro closure. Perfect for a tablet! Both pockets are placed just below the “fold-over” line so that they can be used when the bag is in any position.
I’ve made my bag out of wool suiting, corduroy and waxed canvas. I love the cozy, collegiate book-bag look of it! My wonderful testers tried out the pattern using a variety of fabrics and I’ll be sharing those with you later this week. In the meantime, you can grab a copy of the Field Study Tote PDF pattern over in my Etsy shop!
I LOVE,LOVE this one! And those fabrics are so perfect for it! I have several of your bag patterns already and this one will definitely be joining them on payday!
