When I think of June, I think of sunshine, blue sky and rainbows! (and of course, Pride Month!) So for the June Ornament of the Month I present to you, the Up Up & Away Hot Air Balloon Ornament!
I had so much fun figuring out how to design this little balloon. I wanted it to have 6 different color sections to have a full rainbow spectrum. Rather than seaming the sections and stuffing the balloon, I stiffened and shaped them. The construction, with little open spaces, feels very light and airy. Almost origami-ish.
Of course embroidered details are another important aspect. Each section has a little felt diamond and chain stitched accents. And the basket! The tiny little basket suspended below by baker’s twine is too cute for words.
