As part of my mission to finish WIPs from WF, I finished up this sweet little baby blanket this weekend. I love love the colors, although for some reason had trouble capturing just how rich they are in photography. You’ll just have to take my word for it: yummy coral, spring green, raspberry, ivory and brown. All from felted wool sweaters, lined with a print cotton flannel. Available now in the shop! ***edit: blanket is sold!!!***
This is a nice size for a stroller blanket, tummy time, or nursery decor. (approx 28″ x 31″) Especially suitable for a winter baby, it’s true…but I am pushing the seasons. 🙂
Around here we call our favorite snuggling blankets “wubbies”. (Named after the security blanket from the movie Mr. Mom with Michael Keaton) What do you call them at your house?
This IS a cute little blanket. I love the colors too. At our house, we call everything we’re attached to a security blanket, including the stuff animals and other snuggly things we can’t be without. (not very creative or silly)
Betz, my kids called them ‘binkies’ and ‘bankies’. (Apparently ‘L’s were difficult for little mouths!!!)
My son has his Pooh Bear ‘bankie’ carefully stored in a box in our attic – and asked me to bring it with me to Texas in December, when HIS son is born. sigh.
I wish my daughter had your beautiful blanket instead of the nightgown of mine that she became very attached too. She called it her gunk and carried it everywhere with her for years.
This is a lovely wubby! Both my kids called theirs “fuzzy blankie”, and my son also had a “silkie blankie” which was an important distinction, apparently!
Funny – I recall a trip south that we made when he was just about 3 (he’s 18 now). I turned my head slightly in the car just in time to see him with his window cracked about 2 inches and 99% of his silkie blankie sticking out the window! He was holding on to just the tiniest corner. When I rather excitedly asked him WHAT HE WAS DOING he told me he was getting it cold! LOL. He still likes his pillow case to be cold…
We called them “Lovies”. I don’t know where the name came from — I think I might have read it somewhere and that’s the name that stuck.
Aw, that’s adorable! Great composition. We don’t have a name for a blanket, but once you’re under it, you’re officially “nuggy.”
I love those! The pockets are great. I remember my “blankie” so fondly! If I still had it it would be so cherished.
Andrea-I used to put mine in the fridge to make it cold!
i confess – i am 27 and still have my “woobie”
(but i don’t think i’m the only one)
So cute!! My firstborn(who is now 18) called her blankie a “mankie”. It was a vibrant-colored Puffalumps crib quilt that is thin and faded now, but still precious : )
Thank you for your wonderful book. I have made two of these for new babies. I used cashmere sweaters i collected a thrift shop sales. Looking forward to your next book.
In our house, security blankets are called “buddies”, which was my 2nd daughter’s 18 month old pronunciation of “blankie.”
My firstborn ended up with 9 baby blankets made for her by friends and family! And I can’t part with a single one of them!
That blanket is soooo cute. I love it!
Everyone here has such cute stories to tell and neat names for blankets! I love the gunk nightgown blanket, lol!
SNUGGLIES!
Ours is a TY lamb that I made into a blanket–it is the most loved object in our home hands down.
Nice lil’ wubby, I’m sure it will get lots of love!
I love this! My kids call them “tee tees.”
My daughter called her fuzzy blanket “soffie” and we loved that name.
I love your blanket and I see it was snatched up quick. Hey, I am driving through Maryland tomorrow on our way from NYC to D.C. I will yell hey out the window:)

Divinos todos tos trabajos!
Zepequeña.
That looks so snuggly! And darling!
Hi Betz:
Around here, the little girl my daughter is a nanny for calls them her “mimi,” which happens to be my nickname. Your blanket is too sweet!
Amy
Holy Cow I can’t believe you made a Mr. Mom reference! I hardly ever find anyone who has seen this hilarious (and under-appreciated!) movie. As spouses joined our family they had to be indoctrinated just so they could be in on the jokes between me, my sibs and our parents. ha! ha!
“220, 221… whatever it takes.”
Awesome! 🙂
In Dundee we call these Linus style blankies – sookies – for sooking (sucking) on – I love to make little felted/embroidered versions for friends babies!
My Linus blanket was actually an octopus made of mohair wool that my mum made – a small ball for the head, lots and lots of strands cut and a tuft made on the top of the ball, the strands spread over the ball and another closure below and then the strands pleated into 8 legs. He was called Oosie (coz he was all fuzzy) and I had him from the age of 6 to 36 (when he got lost in a pub – don’t ask!) I used to suck 2 fingers and use him to tickle my nose!
Lots of blankies in my family! My brother called his Gee-Gaw, my cousin called his Ga-Ga, and I called mine Yung-Yung. (Sounds rather like one of the pandas.)
My daughter had not one, not two, but three blankies we had to carry with us. The first was Ba, a soft yellow blanket, the second was Granma Ba, a white blanket my mom gave her, and the third was Baby Ba, which was actually a tangle of the satin binding that had come off Ba. And woe betide us if we ever went anywhere without all three!
