1) Candy Corn is the Devil:
I can’t resist. Every year it’s the same thing. I buy a bag and eat it until I am sick. I know this about myself. Ohhhh, but it’s so good! Nevermind that it gives me the shakes, it’s a tradition! I know Anna agrees with me.
2) I’m loving this book, Craft Inc. Finally, all of the answers to starting a crafty business in one spot! I’m only halfway through, but it is a bevy of useful information. I like that it has interviews with a variety of familiar crafters sprinkled throughout. (the background fabric is a sheet I thrifted last week. I am so happy with the thrift store here in my new area!)
3) Paper Play: That’s the name my sons have given their home made paper video games. They staple sheets of paper together then draw out each “level” of the game on the subsequent pages. You should hear the descriptions and intricate detail of the games! Yeah, I know TV and video games melt their brains. We do regulate screen time and at least they spend the rest of their time at the table making stuff…even if it is based on video! The little plastic things are some empty pin boxes I gave them. They turned them into “game boys”. Yes, they actually play them. Ha. No batteries! đ
4) Eco-fabulous!: I received some great fabric from Harmony Art. Check out Harmony’s line of beautiful organic cotton prints. She saw a need in the market for eco-friendly fabric that didn’t sacrifice style so she started her own company! Very inspiring….
Ok, enough randomness for now…enjoy your week!
Can I ask where you are thrifting? I live in the DC Metro area and have a couple of good places in my area, but I’m always looking for other places to visit.
Thanks!
Mmmm….candy corn….
Ever made a “payday mix”? It’s just equal parts of candy corn and peanuts and when you eat it (by the handful, of course), it tastes like a payday. Sooooo yummy.
I love that Harmony fabric and those Gameboys – what a great idea. I’ll be onto that one tomorrow!
I’ve never tried candycorn (being as I am, in the UK) but there seems to be a recurrent theme – candycorn=binge=feeling sick. Not even the Wikipedia description has been able to ‘sell’ it to me! and I’m all for overindulgence – it just looks like yellow pulled teeth – sorry guys :o)
You told on me!!
I love the gamecubes, and I can totally relate to trying to balance the gaming interest with creative play. We have pretty much gotten rid of all the video business cause its sooo hard to enforce, and regulate without feeling like your constantly yelling and correcting. Agh. Boys. We just do a little bit on online game stuff now and then. Supervised!
have a good one.
Your candy shot actually makes me hungry for more. Dang!
xo,AM
what a coincidence! I had a dream about candy corn on Saturday night, so bought some today and ate it at my desk until my teeth hurt!
I agree 100% on the candy corn and the eco-friendly fabric. NO good places to thrift in Central WI.
And I thought I was the only one with the Candy Corn problem… I swear… every year, the same thing! Your boys seem so creative, great job Mom!
I enjoyed the randomness! The boys drawings were fun!
I wish we had candy corn over here, it sounds delicious! Your new thrifted fabric is perfect for the Craft Inc. book, what a fabulous combo! I love how kids are so imaginative when it comes to play, it’s great that you keep them off consoles so they can craft their own đ Also, love the fabric patterns @ Harmony Art…fantastic eye-candy all around.
I *love* Harmony Art! Can’t say I share the same feelings for candy corn – blech đ
your boys are brilliant, btw!
My boys are now 16 and 19 and I still find pages and pages of home made game stuff all over the house. Brilliant!
Hi i just come across your blog, you have some lovely things on it, that book looks great!!

ooooh, what is candy corn? Am I missing out being in the UK?
Just found this blog whilst avoiding work – I shall be back lots!!!!
I’m the same way with swedish fish!
love your boys’ creativity. My 3 year old daughter made her own computer right next to ours. She taped a cardboard box to the wall, drew a moniter screen and keyboard keys {all the keys also have letters on them… mostly k, e, o and y…} and writes her blog out loud while I write mine. lol
Betz, I am laughing because I just bought a bag of candy corn with the chocolate tips and a bag of candy corn pumpkins. My kids prefer the traditional candy corn so I bought a bag of that, too. Nothing like starting the downward spiral of eating Halloween candy a little early. We all love it.
Oh and when my boys were little (and now) I banned all violent toys from the house, play swords, guns, etc. Then they would take innocent things like puzzle pieces and turn them into guns to pretend. You just can’t win. They turned out to be nice teenagers anyway.
those are very inspiring things. i never would have thought that you’d need to read a book about craft businesses though.. you were on MARTHA afterall!!! i saw her show for the first time yesterday!
One bag? I am on number two, and four weeks to go till Halloween. Candy corn is the devil.
