Well, my dear bloggy friends, May 1st has come and gone. May 1st was my big fat manuscript deadline for book #2. I wish I could say how relieved I am and how much lighter I feel with the weight off my shoulders, but it’s more of a gradual awakening. Of course, there are many straggling loose ends that didn’t quite make the deadline, so I wouldn’t dare use the word “done” quite yet.
I am starting to look for normal. Not perfection, just some kind of sane, regular rhythm around here. Like perhaps a few evenings spent on the couch knitting and talking to my husband instead of working until midnight. A shower every other day would be nice (for everyone). If you’re a regular visitor around here, you know that we moved across the country (WI to MD) last summer right before school started. I took 2 weeks to unpack than dove into this book head first as soon as the school bus pulled away from the curb on the first day of school. I have been sitting at my computer, drawing table, or sewing machine ever since. Practically.
Now there are five weeks left of the school year. Five weeks before I switch to summertime mom-mode. Five weeks to catch up on all of the things I should’ve taken care of for the last nine months…finding a dentist, start exercising again, answering long over due emails, maybe get my Maryland driver’s license…but I’m going to take it slow, one thing at a time.
Funny story…the afternoon before my big deadline, a neighbor kid rang the doorbell. I heard my oldest son answer and tell his friend, “You can’t come in, my mom has a deadline.” The neighbor kid said incredulously, “What? Your mom has a DEAD LION????!!!”
Ha! Love that. I sure did…I had a big fat dead lion and thank goodness it’s gone now.
(hey, and thanks everyone for the anniversary wishes! That photo was taken by my sister-in-law one weekend in Chicago, 1990. The roll of film was forgotten, went undeveloped for years, then was rediscovered and developed. What a nice surprise! It is my favorite photo of me and the hub.)
Normal is a setting on the dryer.
Have a great day!

Hehehe, kids are so funny. A dead lion indeed. I’m glad it’s temporarily over. It sounds like you put a lot of great work into your book, so I’m sure it will turn out fabulous.
It’s a good thing you got that “dead lion” out of the house. They begin to smell after a few days!!
My son used to grab his sister’s hand and drag her outside to play, telling her, “I think mom needs a piece of quiet.”
Yeah….for sure.

Yay for getting that “dead lion” done with!
Your photo in the post below is wonderful. We have a roll of undeveloped film from years ago… I should give myself a “dead lion” to get that developed!
: )
Love the dead lion story! Sometimes those deadlines definitely feel like dead lions that we need to get rid of!
I hope your return to normal (whatever that is) leads you to new adventures!

Glad the dead lion is gone! Normal is a place in Maine. Are you sure you want to move again?
Normality, what’s that? I’ve tried getting a schedule into motion around here but every day is new. You learn to appreciate the insanity! đ
congratulations on getting that lion out of the way (great story), remember the old Art Linkletter show “kids say the darndest things”, that story could have been a hit there.
My son often go phrases he heard mixed up, at 3 yrs old he told his uncle who was teasing him “I know you, you’re a book!” In our family it is now said that way still
love the iris pictures. Mine just FINALLY bloomed, and I am strangly enough editting the pics to put on my blog. Most of mine are that same light purple, but one of them came out this deep dark purple this year. They are bulbs from my grandfather’s irises and they have NEVER been that color. How strange!
Glad to hear the dead lion is gone!
Congrats! It was strange readng this post, as I have just graduated, and I’m going through the same thing. A slow unwinding and figuring out how to be mommy house keeper and wife again without all of the craziness is quite a process. Now I’ll have time to read the book đ
Yay, Betz! That is a giant relief. You did it.
That is such a sweet picture of you and your husband. Your husband looks so proud.
Have a relaxing weekend.

When is your book coming out?
My second book, tentatively called Sewing Green, will be out Spring 2009! Only the content is done, next it goes on to the book designer, final editing and printing…a long process.
Good to know I’m not the only one who pines for a shower ever other day! I LOVE the Dead Lion story. My daughter once asked in all seriousness as I was complaining of my sore forearms “What? Do you have 4 arms mum?” Good luck with getting back to the norm before the summer hits. I’m looking forward to the summer so I can just breath out and relax for a while. I can’t wait to see your new book.
Thanks for the laugh – dead lion indeed! I might steal that line for work (to get a few laughs)! Can’t wait to see your new book when it’s released. I’m sure it will be great!
I can relate to every word, and send my heartfelt congratulations.
P.S. I tried to respond to your comment the other day by saying that I know, I missed my curfew, and I wasn’t even out getting drunk or making out with someone, but your email address always bounces me off . . . baby.
